Science scholarships from around the world

One of the world's oldest and most prestigious fully-funded postgraduate awards — covers any subject at Oxford, including chemistry, physics, biology, and engineering. Around 100 scholarships are awarded globally each year across dozens of eligible countries and regions.

Full-cost scholarship for any subject at Cambridge, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Open to citizens of any country outside the UK; around 80 scholars are selected each year, with a slight preference toward PhD applicants.

Fully-funded joint master's degrees taught across universities in at least two European countries, open to students worldwide in fields spanning environmental science, physics, materials science, biotech, and more. You can apply to up to three different joint programmes per year.

Fifteen fellowships awarded each year to women pursuing doctoral or postdoctoral research in the life sciences, physical sciences, or engineering, spread across Africa, the Arab States, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and Latin America & the Caribbean.

ACS relaunched its flagship scholarship for the 2026–2027 academic year, replacing the long-running "ACS Scholars Program." Supports US high school seniors and undergraduates pursuing chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or a related chemical science.

Funds a 6–8 week summer research placement in a chemistry-related area (lab-based or remote) for undergraduates in the middle years of their degree, to build real research experience.

For students registered on an RSC-accredited chemistry degree outside the UK/Ireland — funds a short 6–10 week research placement hosted at a UK or Irish university, to build international research experience and connections.

Germany's national scholarship agency funds full master's and PhD study in Germany across all subjects, including chemistry, physics, biology, and engineering — most public German universities also charge no tuition fees. DAAD Pakistan runs dedicated info sessions for local applicants.

Fully-funded master's and PhD study in the UK for students from developing Commonwealth countries, including Pakistan. Covers science and technology fields alongside development-focused subjects. Pakistani applicants apply via HEC, which nominates candidates to the Commission.

Fully-funded graduate study in the US for Pakistani citizens, open to all fields (except clinical medicine) — chemistry and the physical sciences are welcome. Covers tuition, airfare, a living stipend, and health insurance.

Fully-funded one-year UK master's for future leaders from over 160 countries, open to any subject including chemistry and materials science. Pakistan is consistently one of the largest recipient countries. Requires ~2 years' work experience and a 2-year return commitment.

Funds PhD study, including chemistry and the sciences, entirely within HEC-recognized Pakistani universities — with a monthly stipend so scholars can research full-time without financial pressure.

Sends Pakistani students abroad — UK, USA, Germany, France, China, Australia, and more — for fully-funded PhD study in any discipline, including chemistry, then back to Pakistan to build local research capacity.

Funds up to 4 years of PhD research (natural sciences, incl. chemistry) at a host institute in another country of the Global South, for women from science-and-technology-lagging countries. Note: OWSD does not run a call every single year — confirm the current status before planning around it.

Supports women in STEM — chemistry included — from developing and emerging economies to pursue PhD or postdoctoral research at a university abroad, with the goal of returning home as scientific leaders and mentors.
