Chemistry Sim · Acid-Base Titration

Drip base into acid, watch the color change.

Add base drop by drop and observe the pH curve. Find the equivalence point where the indicator flashes pink.

Titration apparatus

The burette drips base into the acid flask. Watch the color and the pH curve.

Adjust concentrations, choose an indicator, and add drops.

Tip: Start by clicking "Add Drop" to add base one drop at a time. Watch for the color change โ€” that's the endpoint!

pH Curve

What is an equivalence point?

The equivalence point is where moles of acid exactly equal moles of base. For a strong acid + strong base titration, this occurs at pH 7. The indicator changes color near this point to signal the endpoint.

Why does the pH jump so fast?

Near the equivalence point, the solution is a buffer that resists pH change โ€” until it suddenly can't anymore. One extra drop of base causes a massive pH swing from ~3 to ~10. That's the steep part of the curve.
